The First Full Week
14 09 2007Yes, this was the first full week of school. Although last week certainly seemed full, we had a good ol’ fashioned Monday to Friday week this week. I guess that is obvious, but it is good to see one in the books.
What are we doing? Third grade is still working on some introductory projects with myself and Mr. Brown. They are the only class that has to get used to two new art teachers. Mr. Brown and I have decided to work on the same projects with the third grade classes. In other words, if they start a project with Mr. Brown, they will continue it with me and then continue it with M. Brown and…you get the picture. It will be different for both us, but we look forward to the collaboration.
The 4th grade students are learning about rhythm. First, we talked about it in relation to music since that is what we immediately associate it with. Rhythm can also be found in visual arts. Lines can be either have a fast or slow rhythm. Pictures can either have a fast or slow rhythm. So, we listened to different pieces of music and drew lines that matched the rhythm of the song. From there, we did a sponge painting where the students either created a fast or slow rhythm painting.
The 5th grade students began their weaving project this week. We learned about the loom, warp, and weft. It is a time consuming project and takes a lot of concentration, but we are going to take it step by step.
The 6th grade are working on emotion paintings. First, they got their picture taken in a specific emotion. Then, they glued that picture to a piece of paper and used different lines and colors to match the emotion on their face. I find that this is a very successful project for students because the possibilities are endless to what they can do.
Finally, I wanted to pass along information on a photo contest. If your child is interested, click here.
Until next week…
